ProtoCentral Releases HealthyPi v4 Wearable Vital Sign Monitor

ProtoCentral has released their new HealthyPi v4 wearable vital sign monitor that can function as a standalone device or used as a HAT for the Raspberry Pi. The HealthyPi v4 is the natural successor to the v3 and is capable of measuring ECG (electrocardiogram) data (heart rate/heart rate variability), respiration based on an impedance pneumograph, pulse oximetry (SPO2), and body temperature.

Under the hood, the HealthyPi v4 packs an ESP32-WROOM-32 module with a dual-core Xtensa 32-bit CPU, and 4 MB of onboard Flash. Wireless features include Wi-Fi and Access Point (AP) modes, a 2.4 GHz radio with a built-in PCB antenna that is compatible with Bluetooth 4.2 and BLE. Sensors consist of an ECG and respiration front end with a Texas Instruments analog ADS1292R with an SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) of 107db, a TI AFE4400 pulse oximetry sensor, and a Maxim MAX30208 digital body temperature sensor. All data garnered through the sensors can be monitored and recorded in real-time using the HealthyPi v4 app for Android. There is also a web server mode to stream live data over a network.

For ports and interfaces, the HealthyPi v4 is equipped with a 40-pin Raspberry Pi HAT connector, two Qwiic connectors for add-on boards, a USB-CDC converter for programming, a sliding-mode switch to change between standalone/HAT modes, and a power switch.

The HealthyPi v4 is now available on Crowd Supply in kit form, with $169 for the standard kit, which includes the board, three-electrode ECG connector, 1000mAh LiPo battery, 20 single-use electrode pads, an SPO2 finger clip, a Qwiic-based temperature sensor, and a HAT mounting kit.

A complete kit is being sold as well for $349 and comes with everything in the standard kit, plus a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, 16 GB microSD card with Raspbian and Healthy Pi software, a seven-inch Raspberry Pi touchscreen LCD display, and a SmartiPi Touch enclosure for both the screen and the Pi. ProtoCentral also includes a medical-grade wall power adapter for US, UK, and EU outlets.
