Top 20 APIs of 2019 Based on Twitter Traffic

Like most organizations, ProgrammableWeb has a presence on various social media outlets these days, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, and of course, Twitter.

We used Twitter for discovering new APIs that can be added to our directory, as well as correspond to providers or users from time to time. Witnessing what is trending on Twitter can provide us with insights on what are the important topics of the day, and what technology may be driving developers.

Each time we publish and API on ProgrammableWeb, we try to publish a tweet to promote it a bit. In this article, we check out the top 20 ProgrammableWeb tweets about APIs that were clicked on, retweeted, liked, or shared in other ways by the Twitterverse. APIs from our various categories are represented, including TV, Location, Security, Data, Cryptocurrency, and DevOps.

1. Star Trek API

Realty Mole provides data on real estate properties. This RESTful API supports looking up specific properties or searching based on size, lot, year built, or other criteria.

8. Vericred Disruption Analysis API

The Vericred API returns health insurance data including medical plans, dental plans, vision plans, coverage, drugs, networks, and providers. The Disruption API enables users to weigh-in factors resulting from switching plans.

9. Xpring XRP API

Xpring is an open developer platform for money. Xpring XRP is a digital asset native to the XRP Ledger. The XPRING XRP API retrieves digital currency data in JSON format to check balances, send payments, and check the status of a payment.

10. Plansource API

PlanSource provides software for employee benefits administration. The PlanSource API provides programmatic access to manage benefits, payroll, compliance, and billing data for employers and insurance solutions. Plansource supports Aflac, Cigna, Guardian, MetLife, and Unum insurance companies.

Hodl Hodl is a a peer-to-peer Bitcoin exchange platform with an API to integrate with wallets, other trading services, OTC trading desks and aggregators.

12. Terbine API

Terbine is a digital marketplace for physical world data. The Terbine API provides a way to interface with Terbine marketplace services. The API provides methods to retrieve data about IoT services from universities, public agencies, and corporations regarding user administration, user profiles, search, schema admin, metadata and more.

13. No Key No Shade RuPaul’s Drag Race

The No Key No Shade: A RuPaul’s Drag Race API provides data from the vh1 TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race. Developers can access data about queens, seasons, and episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race TV program.

CoinGecko is an application for rating digital currencies in the cryptocurrency market. The CoinGecko API enables developers to retrieve live cryptocurrency and cryptoexchanges data. The API provides trading volume, pricing, tickers, exchanges, historical data, coin information, and global markets. Over 4,000 cryptoassets and 300 cryptoexchanges are available.

20. qmeta API

qmeta.net is an anonymous peer-to-peer (P2P) search engine that uses its own search and ranking algorithms. qmeta search engine API offers programmatic access for search query data.
